Those of you who know me fairly well know that I'm generally not a very religious or preachy kind of person. I don't quote Bible verses and I don't go around telling people what to believe or not believe. Lately church has kind of been hitting home for me though with everything our family has gone through for the last few months. This was the message this morning:
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
My immediate reaction was that God didn't protect me from slipping nor was he there by my side keeping me from harm, but when I thought more about it I realized that if I had been looking to God and trusting in Him more then I wouldn't have needed such protection. I was looking for help and answers in the wrong places. When I most needed to turn to God and trust that he would help guide me on the right path, I instead turned my back and made some bad choices in life. Thankfully, God (and Matt, the kids, our family and friends) is very forgiving and now when I'm looking to Him for help and asking for guidance when I'm struggling He seems to be there with an answer. I'm taking a few big leaps of faith in life right now and trusting that things will be fine. He will be my help and strength when I need it. I just need to trust in that.
What a beautiful post, Shaila! Amen.
ReplyDeleteThe "trusting" part is the hardes part for most of us, I think. For some reason when we hold up our end of the deal (by trusting in God and following His ways), we think that God will back out on his promise and somehow we will end up lost, hurt, or broken. But He is there and He WILL come through for us, we just have to give him the chance. Myself included!!
ReplyDeleteLoved reading this! Submit your ways unto the Lord & He'll make all things you put your desires in to, good.
